Help

Plain answers to the things people ask most. If you don't find it here, write to us — there's a contact at the bottom.

Account, passkey & recovery

How do I sign up — do I need an email?
No. You join with a passkey stored on your device, or with a pseudonymous recovery phrase. There is no email-as-login and no "sign in with Apple, Google, or Facebook".
What is the recovery phrase, and why does it matter?
Because we hold no email and no phone number tied to your identity, the recovery phrase is the only way back into your account if you lose your device. Write it down and keep it somewhere safe and offline.
I lost my recovery phrase and my device. Can you restore my account?
We can't. There is no identity on file for us to verify you against — that is the privacy trade we made on purpose. Without the phrase or the original passkey, the account cannot be recovered, and its data expires on its own.

Deleting your account

How do I delete my account?
Open the app and go to Me › Account & data › Delete account (under "Danger zone"). You'll first confirm it's you with your passkey or recovery phrase and type DELETE; the deletion then runs at the end of a 60-second countdown you can still cancel. Deletion is irreversible and removes your account and its data. The full breakdown of what is removed is on the account-deletion page.
Do I have to delete to be private?
No. Everything you create already expires server-side within 24 hours. Account deletion is for closing the account itself, not for clearing day-to-day content.

Safety & reporting

How do I report or block someone?
From any conversation or profile, Report and Block are reachable in two taps or fewer. Blocking ends contact immediately; reporting sends the matter to our safety team.
Can I take a screenshot of a chat?
No app can prevent screenshots on iOS, so Wesprs discloses them instead: when the system tells us a screenshot was taken in a chat, the other person sees a plain notice. Screen recording and mirroring additionally hide sensitive screens while they are active. The screenshot and recording policy explains the details.
Someone shared an intimate image of me without consent. What can I do?
You do not need a Wesprs account to act. The non-account-holder intake handles takedown requests, and we respond within 48 hours.

Subscriptions

Is messaging free?
Yes. Talking to people you've matched with is free for everyone — there is no paywall on chat and no charge to send the first message.
What does the subscription do, and who handles billing?
There is one optional Privacy subscription. On iOS it is billed through the App Store with StoreKit; we never see your card details. The subscription adds optional features — it does not buy your way past privacy.
Are there ads if I don't subscribe?
No. There are no ads whether you subscribe or not, and no advertising or tracking SDKs in the app. Your subscription status is never exported for advertising or analytics.

Media & consent

What happens to a photo's metadata?
Location and camera metadata are stripped from images server-side before anyone else can see them. We don't keep the original, and the image expires with everything else after 24 hours.
Does the other person see my media automatically?
Sensitive media is consent-gated — the recipient chooses to view it, it isn't force-played. Messages are end-to-end encrypted: we relay ciphertext we cannot read. Photos are encrypted in transit and at rest, but they pass through our servers, which strip their metadata before the recipient can see them.
